May 30th, 2024 – FH President & CEO Mark Viso Submitted Testimony to the Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Committee on Appropriations United States Senate Chairman Coons, Ranking Member Graham, and distinguished members of the Subcommittee, thank you for your leadership and the opportunity to provide written testimony. My name is Mark Viso, and I am the President & CEO of Food for the Hungry, a Christian humanitarian organization providing life-changing relief and development programs since 1971. At Food for the Hungry, we design, develop, and deliver catalytic solutions that build resilience so that children, families, and communities can flourish.

May 7th, 2024 – FH President & CEO Mark Viso Submitted Testimony to the Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Committee on Appropriations United States Senate Inspired by our Christian faith, Food for the Hungry is honored and privileged to serve vulnerable families and communities in many of the world’s most fragile contexts. In the face of spiraling global conflicts, a worsening hunger and malnutrition crisis, ongoing climate shocks, and growing economic uncertainty and political instability, we remain committed to transforming lives “so the poor have hope, and injustice shuts its mouth” (Job 5:16).

November 15th, 2023 – Food for the Hungry’s EduLabs Program to Provide Technology-Driven Education and Training Across 80 Vulnerable Communities in the Dominican Republic International humanitarian organization Food for the Hungry (FH) launches its transformative education initiative, EduLabs, to provide accessible, technology-driven education in the Dominican Republic. The organization will establish technology laboratories with robust internet connectivity in 80 public schools situated in Greater Santo Domingo, Monte Plata, Elías Piña, and San Juan de La Maguana – areas that have previously suffered a deep digital divide. 

October 12th, 2023 – FH Leads Faith Based Organization Letter on the Farm Bill to U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Food for the Hungry (FH) President & CEO Mark Viso joined the CEOs of World Vision, World Relief, Bread for the World, ADRA, and Christian Connections for International Health in calling for Congress to reauthorize the Farm Bill. In a letter from the six CEOs to the House and Senate Agriculture Committees, leaders shared faith-based rationales for strengthening international food assistance programs.

July 27, 2023 Food for the Hungry appoints Lisa J. Pino as Chief Operating Officer Washington, D.C. and Phoenix, Arizona: Food for the Hungry (FH) today announced the appointment of Lisa J. Pino as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). Pino, who officially commenced the role on July 10, will oversee and implement systems to forge organizational transformation and achieve greater impact across the 18 countries that FH serves around the world. – En Español

April 6, 2023 Congressional testimony for the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee: Food for the Hungry (FH) President & CEO Mark Viso submitted testimony to the U.S. House of Representatives’ Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee asking Congress to provide robust funding for international food security programs. His testimony highlighted that last year’s global food security crisis is steadily growing, with one-third of the world currently unable to afford a nutritious diet and 43 million people on the brink of famine. Viso called for lawmakers to demonstrate the political will and public courage to prioritize international food security programs that aid and empower the world’s most vulnerable. He detailed FH’s commitment to continued partnership in the critical work of saving lives and building long-term resilience.

April 14, 2023 Mark Viso’s congressional testimony for the House State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee: Food for the Hungry (FH) President & CEO Mark Viso submitted testimony to the U.S. House of Representatives’ State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee, asking Congress to provide robust funding for critical development, humanitarian, and global health programs at USAID and the Department of State. His testimony highlighted how fragility, weak institutions, a changing climate, and the impact of Russia’s war in Ukraine have combined to produce humanitarian catastrophes in many of the countries where FH works. Viso called on Congress to address these injustices by mobilizing the full force of the U.S. government to fight poverty and human suffering. He reiterated FH’s commitment to continued partnership in the critical work of saving lives and building flourishing, resilient communities.

April 19, 2023 Food for the Hungry Appoints New CFO:Food for the Hungry (FH), today announced the appointment of George Schutter as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Schutter will be responsible for the global nonprofit’s financial and risk systems and play a pivotal role in strategic planning and achieving greater impact for the communities Food for the Hungry serves around the world.

You may send small, flat paper-based items that can fit into a standard #10 size envelope, have a value of less than $5 dollars and weigh less than 4 ounces. We ask that you send small, flat items of this size because shipping is expensive and even small gift items can cause issues clearing customs.

You can send postcards or photographs, however, we ask that you visit here for more details about culturally appropriate guidelines for photos and other images. Please write the child’s ID # on the back of each item that you enclose with your letter to ensure that it reaches him/her.

Please note, all items should be compliant with airline transport and safety regulations. Gifts that don’t meet the gift policy will be donated to a local Christian non-profit organization in Phoenix, Arizona, that works with low-income families. We will not be able to return them.
